I remember the first time I came out.
I thought I was going to throw up.
I was telling my friend that the reason I was getting divorced was because I was having an affair with a woman.
I was terrified to tell her.
I had no idea what she would do.
She asked me if I was the only who didn’t know that I was a lesbian.
The next time I came out was almost 12 years later.
I was getting divorced from my ex-wife.
I started dating men.
I lost almost all of my friends in the LGBT community because I had betrayed them.
I like to remind them I put the B back in LGBT.
This year I am coming out again.
As usual it feels like an act of rebellion.
This time however, I am coming out as something I never expected.
I am a Christian.
I am a Witch.
I am a Christian Witch.
I am just living in the magic and energy of possibility with the recognition that God’s love is endless.
Rock on,
Dr. Melissa Bird
