Are you a mainstream disruptor?

Do you find yourself talking with your amazing husband who is supposed to completely get you but keeps asking you why you are so angry and can’t understand when you try to explain it to him?

Do you find yourself hanging out with your beautiful friends trying to explain why they should pay more attention to what is happening in the world only to hear them say for the thirty millionth time that it is too overwhelming and I should just tell them what they need to know?

Do you find yourself sitting in church on Sundays wondering how you are going to navigate the family dinner that is coming up at the end of the day because you won’t be able to express yourself fully?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you might just be a mainstream disruptor.

If you find yourself tired of holding space for others before yourself.

If you find yourself censoring your message online because you don’t want the debate.

If you find yourself wishing you were the center of your own attention.

If you find yourself resonating with any of those statements you might just be a mainstream disruptor.

Let this be an invitation to move your disruption into your own spotlight. Here are a few ways to make even the smallest shift in your life so you can open to a little more disruption:

  • Realize you can be two things at once. You can be angry and happy, furious and graceful at the same time. You have permission to hold conflicting emotions at the same time. Go ahead. Try it.

  • Look for 5 simple things to be grateful for right when you wake up, every day for a week. Most often for me, it is that my knees don’t hurt and Potato the Frenchie isn’t snoring directly in my face. Gratitude gives us more reasons to be grateful. Try it and see what happens.

  • Look for the evidence right in front of you that you are powerful just as you are. I bet you orchestrate your entire family just like I do. I bet you are a planner and a food maker, a laundry goddess, and an epic mail opener. Those are powerful talents. Recognize them.

Listen up, you are a remarkable human living in a world that feels like it is perpetually telling us we are not worthy of glorious, explosive happiness and anger.

You’ve got this, my friend.

And if you ever want to talk, just let me know. I am here.

Sending you love from the trees.

Xoxo,

Dr. Melissa Bird
