Monday Mayhem – I have a prayer

I have a soul calling. I have heard it in my heart ever since I was a little girl. It is a compulsion that I have spent most of my life running away from because I didn’t understand the importance of listening to the whispers of my heart.

Every heartache, every struggle, every loss, every fear has led us to this moment of opportunity to make lasting, focused, rebellious change. We cannot fail if we follow the whispers of the heart.

We have been divinely guided to this moment. It is our time my fellow rebels. Look inside your heart to know this is true. Look around you at the brewing revolution all around us and know this is true.

We have a compulsion that will not be stopped, a thirst that cannot be quenched, a drive that takes us from zero to 120 in seconds flat. We are the creators, the troublemakers, the change agents, and the leaders.

We have been raised to see difference not as strength, but as a deficit. The institution of the patriarchy will continue as long as women continue to silence other women, especially women of color. We have been silenced because we are dangerous. We have been rendered problematic because we are powerful. United the Natural Born Rebel cannot be stopped.

I have a vision so profound and so deep that each morning when I wake up I can feel it in the marrow of my bones. It is a vision of understanding that each one of us recognizes that we are divinely guided in one way or another. I have a prayer for justice.

Give us the grace, oh universe, to answer readily the call of social justice and community building and proclaim to all people the good news of our rising, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of our marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the spirit of love, one love, forever and ever. And so it is.

Look at all the places where you have been silenced, disenfranchised, stepped on and abused and transmute those moments into opportunities so that your highest rebellious self can make the greatest social impact of our lifetimes. As Eleanor Roosevelt says, “do one thing every day that scares you.”

It’s Monday, cause some mayhem, raise some hell. xoxo, Dr. Melissa Bird
